About Varanasi city

Varanasi is also called Banaras and Kashi. It is considered one of the most sacred cities in Hinduism. Apart from this, it is also considered sacred in Buddhism and Jainism. According to mythology, the city of Kashi was founded by Lord Shiva around 5000 years ago. The unseen region, i.e., Kashi city is situated on the trident of Shiva, where no holocaust can ever come. According to a belief, bathing in the holy Ganges river flowing here erases all sins.

Sant Kabir, Vallabhacharya, Ravidas, Swami Ramanand, Tralang Swamy, Shivanand Goswami, Munshi Premchand, Jaishankar Prasad, Acharya Ramchandra Shukla, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Girija Devi, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia and Ustad Bismillah Khan etc. have stayed in this holy place. Ramcharitmanas Goswami Tulsidas ji, the supreme worshiper of Hinduism, wrote in Kashi itself and Gautama Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple

Also known as one of the Golden Temple, this temple has the highest glory in Kashi, as the Vishwanath Jyotirlinga is installed here. The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Aurangzeb broke this temple in 1669. It was rebuilt by Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore in 1804. In 1739, the ruler of Punjab, Maharaja Ranjit Singhji, had both the peaks of this temple plated with 1000 kg of gold.

Human beings or any living beings get liberated by committing death in Kashi. Lord Shiva preaches the Taraka-mantra in the dying creature’s ear, which gives him salvation.

In Kashi, there is an institution called Kashi Labh Mukti Bhavan. It was started in 1958 by the Dalmia Charitable Trust. People who are counting the last watch in this institution are given admission. Those who wish to have their death in Kashi and their last rites in Kashi are allowed to remain free for 15 days. Any one of their family members is also allowed to remain free. Mukti Bhavan also helps in performing last rites. In this institution, more than 15 thousand people have got salvation. If they do not die within 15 days, they have to leave Mukti Bhavan.

How to reach Varanasi

By rail
Varanasi has three railway stations.

Varanasi Junction: – Varanasi Railway Junction is commonly known as Varanasi Cantt Railway Station. More than 1.5 lakh passengers and more than 240 trains travel daily from this station.

Mughal Sarai Junction: – which is about 18 kilometers from Varanasi. Many trains run from this railway station, especially to eastern India.

Manduadih Railway Station: – Located about 4 kilometers away from Varanasi Cantt Railway Station. This station is built to control the trains of North Eastern Railway.

Rajdhani Express, Sivaganga Express, Lokmanya Tilak Varanasi Express, Vibhuti Express, Howrah Jodhpur Express, Ganga Kaveri Express, Sangamitra Express, Secunderabad Patna Express and Marudhar Express are some of the major trains that go to Varanasi from all over India.

By road

Varanasi is connected by road with cities like Allahabad, Lucknow, Patna, Gorakhpur and Ranchi. . Many comfortable air-conditioned luxury buses run from Lucknow to Varanasi. Government buses and private bus services are available in many states. National Highways, NH 2 and NH 28 can reach Varanasi. It takes 6 to 7 hours to reach Varanasi from Lucknow.

By air

Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport is located at a distance of 24 km from the city of Varanasi. Connected to some major Indian cities like Mumbai and Delhi. Domestic airlines such as Air India and IndiGo operate regular flights from Delhi, Khajuraho, Bangalore, Mumbai and Goa. Flights are also available to Kathmandu. To reach the city of Varanasi, one gets a prepaid taxi on rent.
