Bhubaneswar is the capital of Odisha, located in the eastern part of India. Actually it was named after Lord Shiva.  It is also called the ‘City of Temples’.  Here you also get hills, temples and museums too. The city is situated on the banks of the Mahanadi and has many magnificent buildings dating back to Kalinga.  This ancient city has a rich history of 3000 years in its history.  It is said that Bhubaneswar once had more than 2000 temples.

Lingraj Temple 
The Lingaraja Temple is the largest temple in Bhubaneswar.  The temple has special significance for several reasons.  It is one of the oldest temples in the city and was built in the 10th or 11th century.  The temple is dedicated to Harihara, a form of Bhagavana Shiva and is a major landmark of the city.
 Its architectural design is also very excellent and it is one of the few best Hindu temples in India.  The height of this temple is 55 meters and the entire temple has very exquisite carvings.  The Lingaraja temple follows some rigid traditions and non-Hindus are not allowed inside the temple.
 However, a high platform has been erected right next to the temple, so that people of other religions can see the temple.  It is visited by tourists and devotees throughout the year.
